Michael Riglietti's profile

Boating and Moorage at Block Island

Secretary of MSR Electrical Construction Corporation in Brooklyn, New York, Michael Riglietti has more than three decades of experience in the field of electrical construction. In his leisure time, Michael Riglietti enjoys boating to locations such as Block Island.

An island of approximately 11 square miles first explored in 1524 by Giovanni da Verrazano, Block Island lies about 14 miles east of Montauk, New York, and about 12 miles south of Point Judith, Rhode Island. A popular boating location, the island offers plenty of opportunities for exploration and some spectacular views of the Atlantic.

Boaters have several options for moorage. The island's New Harbor, located in the area known as the Great Salt Pond on the west side, offers slips on a first-come first-served basis for vessels under 50 feet. Electricity may be obtained for an additional fee. The town also offers mooring buoys attached to anchors and space for anchorage outside the moorage area.

On the opposite side of the island, Old Harbor provides docks in its small marina at a cost of $2.50 per foot of boat length. The harbor also allows anchoring for up to seven days within two weeks.
